[ Which was to say she wasn't most people, having spent the last hour or so putting out other fires. Maybe it's an attempt at solidarity, at trying to say I understand without ever having to admit it. Loyalty and disappointment — her relationship with Chuck in a nutshell. ]
[ Herc didn't know, raising his boy, the right time to discipline and the right time to be gentle. hell, he still doesn't know what to do about it— but it always comes down to the fact that when the cards were down, he went for his boy, not for his wife.

[ He says copilot and Mako knows that he should, that it's his responsibility as both a ranger and the marshal to present the world in a certain way. Miss Mori is what Pentecost would call her often whenever another soldier was in earshot. As a child it had been a politeness, a reservation; as a ranger, it had been a duty.
Never once had Mako begrudged her father that, but to see it in Herc makes her feel — something. Not sadness or regret, per say, but a kind of deep-seated empathy. A sentiment she felt in her bones. ]

A suggestion maybe, an offer as well — something to do or an excuse to take out some extra aggression on rows of milk bottles and strong-man mallets. Mako would ask Herc if he'd like to spar but he's no longer just a ranger. Take that off the list and there are only so many ways soldiers like them could relate to one another without having to strip down out of their armor completely. ]
[ it has it's merits, but Herc is leery— knows Yancy and Raleigh, maybe Chuck, they'll all be up there. there are days he's torn between going with them and doing what he should be doing— being home base. the place to return.

Tried to get that kid to go with me, show him a few things. Seems he's more interested in the train.
With respect, sir, I don't believe the train is a viable option.
[ COMPASS' plans seemed too comprehensive to allow for such an obvious flaw. Not that Mako can blame anyone for trying, but that's just it — she doesn't think that boy is trying; he's simply tunneling his fear onto something and calling it a plan. ]
You got a shot, you take it. Sometimes the easiest way of getting out is through the front door.
[ Herc agrees; he doesn't think that train would take them anywhere they want to go, but he also isn't going to knock it when it hasn't been tried before. ]
